Alice Russell New Album!!

The best time of year is soon upon us; no not christmas, but the day when Alice Russell releases a new album. Her fourth album is being released digitally first then on CD later in December and on her own label Little Poppet (instead of the usual Tru Thoughts). I have yet to hear the full album (hint hint) but have managed to hear four tracks on the blogosphere. Her cover of Crazy is even better than the live acoustic version leaked last year but I have an exclusive track called "Got the Hunger". Ms Russell's voice just seems to get better and better with every release and it will only be a short amount of time before she gets the recognition she fully deserves. Check it out!

Winter Cheer!

So winter is well and truly upon us in the UK, it's bitterly cold! But since i'm flying to Spain at 7:30 this morning I thought i'd bring some musical cheer and goodwill to all! (Alright, Spain isn't boiling but least it's a tad warmer than Coventry as you can see in the three-day old photo heehee!)

I have just finished another soulful mix, one to get you moving and keep you warm... also shed those calories after all that lovely xmas food! I won't be posting it until tomorrow so this is a bit of a teaser! Props to Mike over at thisistomorrow who posted my first mix thanks!, and cheers for all the response.
Catch ya tomorrow for the tinsel wrapped pressie of a mix...

Well...

A delicious morsel of Cold Blood..

Before you start thinking, she's a bloodsucking nutter - I am obviously talking about the soul-funk-rock group Cold Blood. In particular the album, First Taste of Sin (1972) produced by no other than Donny Hathaway and from the first track to the last it has Donny stamped allllll over it. One track i've singled out as a particular fav is 'You Had To Know'. A fantastic soul ballad that after one listen you instantly recognise it as Hathaway's production: from the surging piano, rising strings and powerhouse vocal; do I go as far to suggest the sister track to 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know', oh yea I do.

Here the track in its full glory, take a listen and bask in the soul of Cold Feet, and credit must go to lead singer Lydia Pense - sing it girl!

Cold Feet - You Had To Know

Check back as i'll be posting some more of my fav tracks and a very special album post - an LP that I have never seen on any soul blog. That must be enough incentive to come back ;)
